Purpose and core values

A team at a whiteboard working through a system design

Zealogics exists to take the problems enterprises have stopped trying to solve, and put working systems in their place.

That is the whole of it. The four values below are the ones we actually recruit and promote against — each written as a behaviour, because a value you cannot observe in someone's work is decoration.

01 — Values

Four, written as behaviours.

Each of these is a question asked in a performance review, not a poster.

Own the outcome

You carry a problem from design through to the thing running in production, and you are still reachable afterwards. Handing work over at a boundary and calling it finished is the failure mode this value exists to prevent.

Say the hard thing early

A schedule that will not hold, a design that will not scale, an estimate that was wrong — raised while it is still cheap to act on. Nobody here is penalised for bad news delivered in time.

Leave it better documented than you found it

The next engineer is a real person with a real deadline. Runbooks, decision records and honest comments are part of the deliverable, not overhead attached to it.

Build for the person who uses it

Operators, technicians, analysts — the people who will live with the system every day. If it is unusable for them it is not finished, whatever the specification says.

02 — What that means day to day

The test we apply.

If a programme ended tomorrow, would the customer be able to keep running what we built without us? Everything above is in service of that answer being yes.
